TOP-RATED ATTRACTIVE PLACES TO VISIT IN AUSTRIA

In the summer 2020 vacation, I chose an accommodation in Tyrol, very close to the border with Bavaria in Germany. One of the days had on the list, as main objective this new tourist objective, namely Highline 179. Located very close to the city of Reutte, on the national road 179, the largest suspension pedestrian bridge in the world, it quickly became a tourist attraction, being visited of thousands and thousands of tourists. Inaugurated in November 2014, with a length of 406 m, a width of 1.2 m and a maximum height above ground of 113 m, the bridge connects two former fortresses on opposite sides. The maximum capacity is 1000 people simultaneously, the number of tourists present on the bridge being kept under control by the fact that the entry and exit from the bridge is done by turnstiles (as in the subway) and by scanning the ticket.

This unique experience must be included on the wish list of strong sensations (and not only), because they exist, no matter how quiet you try to be. If you are "lucky" to find a few more young people "taken by raft" who are trying to swing the bridge (otherwise very stable) the higher level of adrenaline is assured. It is also very safe for children, the side parapets being about 1.20 m high. Crossing the bridge from one end to the other, I saw people more terrified and a bit white / light in the face, due to the balance printed by the young people mentioned above. Obviously the maximum balance is in the middle of the bridge, and the sensations are special. Maybe those with altitude sickness should not cross this bridge.

The view that opens from here is stunning and you can stay for minutes to admire the surrounding panoramas - you can stay on the bridge as long as you want, because it is open from 8 am to 10 pm (I do not know the winter schedule). Probably at sunset, when the bridge is lit, the scenery is amazing. From the bridge you can take wonderful photos, both with the surrounding landscape and with the Ehrenberg fortress. ehrenberg.at

We came from Fernpass and left the car in the first parking here lot (fee 3 euros), we walked for a few minutes, under the suspension bridge, to the ticket office. I bought an 8 euro ticket - with this ticket you have access to the bridge and you can go in both directions with the same ticket. Then you have to climb the path, through the forest for about 15-20 minutes (depending on the physical condition of the tourist). Once up you can visit Ehrenberg Castle (the castle can be seen without taking a ticket, but it's a shame not to go on the bridge), from where you also have some very beautiful views of the surrounding valleys and villages. We chose to cross the suspension bridge from Ehrenberg to Fort Claudia - a fortress on the opposite side - then we went down another road to the parking lot where we left the car.

You can spend a few hours here and I recommend this goal to everyone. In fact, the whole area is suitable for a few days holiday, because it is full of tourist attractions - nearby are the castles of Neuschwanstein, Hohenschwangau and Linderhof, the Zugspitze peak and Lake Plansee. The latter was our next stop - from Highline 179 follow a road of about 15 minutes and you will reach this alpine lake, with special colors of water.

The second largest lake in Tyrol, Plansee has a maximum depth of 76 m, and the water has a purity of class A (best). Nestled between the mountains, at almost 1000 m altitude, Plansee is ideal for a boat ride, with a rented boat, or even for a swim, in case of the bravest. It is also a very good place for surfers and snorkelers. A complete boat tour lasts 1h 50 'and has 3 stops. You can take the boat from any "station" and there are partial tickets for those who do not want a complete tour. You can find the schedule here: zugspitzarena.com/de/regi ... see / schifffahrt

There are several places for the beach (with grass) and I saw two camping areas.

The area is well preserved and protected so you will find very few houses, pensions and hotels. The road winds along the left bank of the lake (only here is a road built), and near the "tail of the lake" (Forelle) we stopped at a terrace arranged on the grass, for a stop for a snack with area-specific sausages and an unfiltered beer. The area is very little "invaded" by human hands (construction) and preserves very well the "wildness" of the area. The tranquility and the extremely clean mountain air create an excellent state of relaxation. You can stay at the few guesthouses and hotels in the area to better feel the atmosphere of the place.
